| Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd. (President: Yasuhito Yamauchi; Headquarters: Kariya, Aichi)
jointly held its “AISIN Children’s Forest” project aimed at interacting with
Thai children through tree planting activities with its Thailand-based subsidiary
SIAM AISIN CO., LTD. (President: Tsuneomi Sasaki) from May 3 through May 8, 2006.
19 employees from both companies participated as volunteers accompanied
by nearly 1,000 people from local communities including children, school teachers
and village residents, who took part in the event in cooperation with OISCA International
(President: Dr. Yoshiko Y. Nakano). A total of 12,000 trees (approximately nine
hectares) were planted and successfully deepened exchanges among all participants. In the midst of the acceleration of the Company’s global production, this activity was established together with its overseas subsidiary as a project to realize AISIN’s Corporate Principle of “Harmony between Society and Nature.” The activity has been implemented since fiscal 2004 as a five-year plan in order to raise employees’ environmental consciousness as well as nurture environmental conservation awareness among local children, who carry the torch for the future. This year marks the third year of this project, whereby barriers were built to protect tree shoots from animals in addition to conventional tree planting and exchange activities. The village mayor of Ban Kadhow in Lamphun Province, who participated in the tree planting activity, joyfully commented, “Thanks to the afforestation activity with children, it stopped people from littering and enhanced the morals of the village.” Additionally, funds for seedlings in 500 yen increments (223 in total) were raised at both companies, with a total amount of 116,500 yen being collected and thereafter donated to OISCA International in Thailand. In the future, such tree planting activities will also be implemented in other Asian regions besides Thailand.
