Environmental Management Basic Approach

As a company with a major role to play in the automobile industry, AISIN believes that environmental issues such as global warming, atmospheric pollution and industrial waste are important managerial topics that need to be tackled by the Group as a whole, and for this reason we place “coexistence between society and nature” at the heart of our corporate principles.

In order to put this ideal into practice, in February 2006 we drew up our “Fourth Environmental Action Plan”, a five-year plan aimed at tackling environmental issues. We are currently tackling five priority issues (see below) including expansion of the Aisin consolidated environmental management.

  • Promote the development of earth-friendly new products and technologies
  • Reducing the substance of environmental concern in production activities
  • Expansion of environmental management
  • Further raise environmental awareness of individual employees worldwide
  • Further encouragement of activities aimed at conserving nature and the environment

In April 2008 we drew up the “Aisin Consolidated Environment Policy”, an action plan aimed at getting 149 companies in Japan and overseas consolidated environmental management system to work together on environmental conservation activities, and we also formulated the “Aisin Consolidated Environment Vision 2010”, which is intended to enshrine the approach that we hope will be shared by all company employees.

Corporate Principles (Revised in April 1996)
  • Enhanced value creation
  • Continuous global growth
  • Harmony with society and nature
  • Individual creativity and initiative

Environmental Charter (Revised in June 1996)
  • We contribute to society through our commitment to technologies and product development that reduce environmental impact.
  • We strive to minimize our consumption of resources and emission of waste, and increase our recycling rates, in all business activities, extending from development and manufacturing to sales.
  • We are continuing to develop and expand company-wide activities to give every member of the company an awareness of environmental preservation.

Environmental Policy (Revised in July 2007)

We will take initiatives in environmental preservation activities at business sites worldwide in order to become a corporate group that brings people into harmony with the earth and contribute to the development of a sustainable society.

  1. Promote the development of new earth-friendly products and technologies that take lifecycle into account as well as environment-friendly manufacturing.
  2. In addition to laws and regulations and pollution control agreements stipulated by respective countries, establish voluntary standards in an effort to prevent pollution.
  3. Minimize usage and waste through resource and energy savings, procurement of materials with minimal environmental impact and expansion of recycling activities and other initiatives.
  4. Promote environmental conservation through the sharing of information with the government, customers and local communities, as well as cooperation with suppliers and domestic and overseas sites, thereby carrying out a review and continuous improvement of environmental management systems toward achieving targeted objectives.
  5. Promote greater and more enlightened environmental awareness in addition to nature and environmental preservation activities.

We are undertaking initiatives in environmental management by ensuring the full awareness and understanding of this policy among all our employees working at business sites worldwide, along with actively disclosing the status of such activities.

Aisin's consolidated environmental policy

In order to realize our business ideals, which are based on “Quality First,” we adopt an approach rooted in thinking about how to benefit society and our customers, making constant improvements, and placing importance on each individual. Through business activities centering on mono-zukuri (“manufacturing expertise in value-added products”), we are contributing to the creation of a sustainable society in which people can coexist in harmony with the environment far into the future.

  1. We lay down an annual policy based on our long-term vision and are engaged in regular reviews conducted on a global basis of our ongoing improvement and environment management system with a view to realizing our objectives.
  2. As well as ensuring detailed and constant exchange of information with the administrative authorities, clients, local communities, suppliers and employees, we engage in efficient operational activities on the basis of mutual collaboration with individual consolidated companies and in linkage with our original business activities.
  3. By introducing appropriate management resources we aim to promote technical innovation, to improve our facilities and equipment, to improve our educational and training facilities, and to enhance awareness.
  4. We promote the development of earth-friendly new products and technologies that take account of the life cycles and manufacturing activities with consideration to environmental issues.
  5. As well as complying with international standards and observing the laws and agreements, etc. stipulated by individual countries, we institute our own autonomous standards and are striving to prevent pollution.
  6. We are attempting to cut down on the use of resources and energy, to procure materials that impose the lowest possible burden on the environment, and to expand our activities aimed at introducing greater efficiency into the distribution process and reusing materials in the context of efforts to minimize the use and scrapping of materials.
  7. We are striving to promote activities aimed at conservation of nature and the environment on a global basis.

We ensure that individual employees worldwide are fully aware of this policy. As well as challenging the achievement of ambitious targets, we do all we can to bring this policy into the public arena.
