Environmental Management Third Environmental Action Plan Results

AISIN set forth 15 goals in the Third Environmental Action Plan for the fiscal years 2002 through to 2006 and proactively pursued these objectives based on an environmental management system. As a result, all of the goals originally outlined were basically achieved; however, some goals were not met due to unexpected developments, mainly concerning decreases in CO2 emissions.

Although Aisin Seiki strived to meet the challenging goal of a 5% reduction in CO2 emissions by fiscal 2006 versus fiscal 1991 levels, CO2 levels rose 7.9% due to rapidly increased production volume and the construction of new facilities, both stemming from business expansion particularly since fiscal 2005, which grew 31% between fiscal 2001 and 2006. However, we made tremendous efforts to conserve energy through "mono-zukuri innovations" over those five years, resulting in the crowning success of a 20% reduction in CO2 emission volume per unit of sales.

We also worked to increase the efficiency of resource use based on the principle of “treating internally as much emitted waste as possible.” As a result of a series of activities to reduce waste and conserve energy through the construction of a large-scale waste incinerator and the AISIN Eco Center, we were able to reduce waste by 99% in fiscal 2006.
