Environmental Management Basic Stance

Aiming to be a Top Environmental Player through the Pursuit of Environmental Management

As a Group operating in the automobile industry, we invest as much effort as any competitor in addressing such fundamental environmental problems as global warming, air pollution and industrial waste.

To this end, we have established the Environmental Charter (1996) as an approach toward achieving our corporate principle of “bringing people into harmony with the earth” and have further formulated our Environmental Policy (2005) as a specific course of action.

We are working to achieve environmental management that “brings people into harmony with the earth” under the banner of the Fourth Environmental Action Plan spanning the fiscal years 2007 through to 2011.

Our Targets

※ LCA:Life Cycle Assessment
A method for comprehensively, scientifically, quantitatively and objectively assessing the total environmental impact during the production, use and disposal of products. Environmental impact is influenced by such factors as resource and energy consumption and emission of environmental pollutants and waste.

Corporate Principles (Revised in April 1996)
  • Enhanced value creation
  • Continuous global growth
  • Harmony with society and nature
  • Individual creativity and initiative

Environmental Charter (Established in July 2005)
  • We contribute to society through our commitment to technologies and product development that reduce environmental impact.
  • We strive to minimize our consumption of resources and emission of waste, and increase our recycling rates, in all business activities, extending from development and manufacturing to sales.
  • We are continuing to develop and expand company-wide activities to give every member of the company an awareness of environmental preservation.

Environmental Policy (Revised in July 2007)

We will take initiatives in environmental preservation activities at business sites worldwide in order to become a corporate group that brings people into harmony with the earth and contribute to the development of a sustainable society.

  1. Promote the development of new earth-friendly products and technologies that take lifecycle into account as well as environment-friendly manufacturing.
  2. In addition to laws and regulations and pollution control agreements stipulated by respective countries, establish voluntary standards in an effort to prevent pollution.
  3. Minimize usage and waste through resource and energy savings, procurement of materials with minimal environmental impact and expansion of recycling activities and other initiatives.
  4. Promote environmental conservation through the sharing of information with the government, customers and local communities, as well as cooperation with suppliers and domestic and overseas sites, thereby carrying out a review and continuous improvement of environmental management systems toward achieving targeted objectives.
  5. Promote greater and more enlightened environmental awareness in addition to nature and environmental preservation activities.

We are undertaking initiatives in environmental management by ensuring the full awareness and understanding of this policy among all our employees working at business sites worldwide, along with actively disclosing the status of such activities.
