News Release
Aiming to reinforce its AI development structure, Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd. will establish the Kyushu Development Center Hakata Laboratory in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture in May 2020.
In the automobile industry, facing a once-in-a-century major transformation period, to respond to CASE, which is the major technological trend, development competition involving IT companies is intensifying. Against this backdrop, to strengthen its development structure for AI technologies, which are indispensable to respond to CASE, we determined to newly establish a development center for AI in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture aiming to secure talented human resources and improve the development environment.
We established the Kyushu Development Center in the Technology Development and Exchange Center, Kitakyushu Science and Research Park aiming to develop key technologies, including image recognition, spatial recognition and automotive control systems in 2014. Later in 2015, we established the Daiba Development Center in Koto-ku, Tokyo in 2015, and since then, we have been developing algorithms by AI and hardware for implementing them.
At the newly established Kyushu Development Center Hakata Laboratory, software for monitoring the surroundings of a vehicle and estimating passengers' status by image analysis utilizing AI will be developed. At the existing Kyushu Development Center, element technologies for hardware, including sensors that detect objects with light and radio waves, will be developed, and making the most of the environment where actual vehicle testing can be carried out, evaluation tests using actual vehicles will be carried out.
