Aisin releases "GHP Hi POWER+," an air conditioner with self-sustained power supply that can produce air conditioning and electricity with gas even at the time of power outage

Mar. 7, 2013

News Release

As an addition to the existing XAIR*1 gas heat pump air-conditioner (hereinafter referred to as "GHP"), Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kariya City, Aichi; President: Fumio Fujimori) will release the "GHP Hi POWER+*2" that can operate and supply electricity in a power outage.

A GHP is an air-conditioning system that provides heating and cooling via a gas engine and contributes to the reduction in electricity use during peak hours and thus energy-savings. Conventional products always required electricity from the system to activate the engine. The product that Aisin Seiki releases this time, on the other hand, can operate on its own owing to a newly added battery (contained in a standalone box beside the main body) that acts as a source of electricity. Thus, the GHP Hi POWER+ can operate and provide air conditioning even in a power outage when there is no electricity from the system. Furthermore, with electricity generated by activating the gas engine, electric appliances other than the air conditioner, such as lighting equipment, TVs and personal computers, can also be used. As a result, the GHP Hi POWER+ will be useful at evacuation shelters such as schools and community centers, in power outages caused by earthquakes or shortages due to high demand. The GHP Hi POWER+ will be sold through gas suppliers and other dealers across the country starting April 2, 2013.

Aisin Seiki will continue to provide products that can deliver joy to customers.

*1 The "X" in the name "GHP XAIR" means "ultimate efficiency" and "infinite potential," while "AIR" means a "comfortable environment," "comfortable air conditioning" and "AIR conditioning system." By combining "GHP" and "AIR" (with "X" doubling for multiplication), "GHP XAIR" expresses that it is the next-generation "super high efficient gas engine heat pump" that can provide customers with better "air conditioning" and a better "environment."

*2 The name GHP Hi POWER+ describes the device as having a built-in electric generator that "adds" ("plus") a self-sustained power supply to "High-power Multi" GHP air conditioning system that enhanced the "power savings" of GHP.
