There were 2808 entries from 39 countries to the iF product design award 2009. Among these, 802 products won the prizes. Our home-use sewing machine, S-Pro SPA SERIES, was one of them, being the first time to win this prize.
The award-winning sewing machine S-Pro SPA SERIES also won the Good Design Award 2008 sponsored by Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization, an incorporated foundation. The S-Pro SPA is developed for person who is highly conscious of design and quality. This series has two major features.
The first feature is an illustrated guidance “Quick Adviser ” on the machine body. Before starting a sewing machine, particularly for a beginner, there are troubles with various preparations, like needle threading. To solve this problem, there is illustrated guidance above the operating dial to help users in every country to manipulate sewing machine without difficulty.
The second feature is a universal design that enables every user to securely enjoy sewing. Designs based on human engineering and friendly to working environment are used in the shape allowing a user to easily look at the portion around the needle, the height of the working table preventing arm fatigue, the wide sewing area, the large dial and lever, etc.

<Designers’ comment>
There are various languages in Europe and so are sewing methods. According to repeated evaluations of users in various countries, we determined the necessity of the operating guide and set a user-friendly height preventing fatigue, thus providing a European basic model (design).
