Expands VVT (Variable Valve Timing) Device Sales to European and U.S. Manufacturers
First Business with BMW (April 4, 2001) |
|
Aisin Seiki (President: Kanshiro Toyoda) received an order for and has begun manufacturing
variable valve timing devices or "VVT" from BMW in Germany. VVT is an
environmentally friendly device that is effective in improving fuel efficiency
and reducing exhaust gas emissions. The Nishio plant started to produce VVT in
1998 and the product has been sold to car manufacturers both in Japan and abroad.
But this is the first time for Aisin to do business with BMW in VVT.
VVT is a control device that optimizes the timing for opening or closing the valve
for air intake or exhaust according to engine rpm (running speed). It also improves
fuel efficiency and reduces exhaust emissions. An increasing number of cars have
been equipped with VVT to meet environmental requirements.
VVT is the third pillar in Aisin's engine components, following oil pumps and
water pumps of which the company has the largest market share in the world. The
number of inquiries Aisin receive is large. And the company is planning to increase
annual production because the number of companies in the U.S., Europe, and Japan
that will use the VVT is expected to increase in the future.
"We
will promote this product to the Big 3 and European car manufacturers," said
Aisin.
