| Aisin Seiki held its 2008 New Year ceremony at its Kariya head office gymnasium on January 7th. President Yamauchi delivered his traditional new year speech to employees outlining his vision for the upcoming year. A summary of the main points raised follows. Prospects and concerns for 2008 With the rapid development of the rising markets of China, India and Russia, the outlook for 2008 is sustained growth. One indicator of that comes from an ambitious plan that Toyota has unveiled, forecasting strong momentum in Japan and other regions around the world. “We still face uncertainties, however. Issues such as the subprime loan crisis, the rising price of oil, security and the environment will have a powerful effect in 2008, but I am optimistic that we will handle those challenges. “This is not to say that we have an easy road in front of us. Being in manufacturing means we have to earn our business from our customers on the basis of quality and price. We must therefore keep our sense of perspective, continue to develop superior human resources, and build the best and greatest manufacturing force (mono-zukuri capabilities) from those resources. This is where we must focus our energy.” A sound base for solid progress Continuing last year’s efforts, Aisin Seiki will place high priority on solidifying its base. “We must have a sound base to create growth. We will promote a policy of ‘fundamentals first,’ putting safety, quality and cost into practice throughout the company.” The need for employee training was also stressed in conjunction with new product development. In particular, President Yamauchi focused on the desire to push forward and accelerate the development of system products in cooperation with group companies. “We need to always look to the world as our benchmark, hold lofty ideals and dreams, and continue pushing the limits of possibility with energy and spirit. We must promote a work environment that makes the job of each and every one of us rewarding so we can concentrate on our task with wholehearted devotion.” Aiming for number one Achieving the status of being number one in the world is no small ambition, yet President Yamauchi showed resolve in his desire to realize this goal. “The world is changing at a hectic pace, and progress waits for no one. To pause is to be left behind. With our superior team at the helm, we will build a sound organization to support what is by far the best manufacturing force anywhere. With a bright future for Aisin in mind, we aim to become the world’s top brand in a year filled with significant challenges and accomplishments.” |
